NCI featured in the Generations Journal from the American Society on Aging
Apr 10th, 2026We recently authored three article about NCI-AD in the Generations Journal from the American Society on Aging.
The first article, "Ten Years of NCI-AD" explores the history of NCI-AD and our work to create standardized, person-centered surveys to hear directly from people using long-term services and supports. The article provides a snapshot into selected outcomes related to quality of life, access, choice, and workforce stability. Check out the story below!
The second article, "Older Americans Act Revisions: Enhancing Community Supports for HCBS" focuses on how the NCI-AD can be used to monitor Older Americans Act programs. Several states that participate in NCI-AD are working to hear from OAA users, and are learning that these users often have difference experiences with services than other NCI-AD respondents. This article showcases how the data can be used to identify areas to strengthen supports for older americans.
Finally, as part of our continuing effort to understand the experiences of people using paid and unpaid family caregiving, we wrote a third article, "Person-Centered Supports for Older Adults: How Paid Family Caregiving Measures Up." These data illustrate the value of paid family caregiving among older adults and can inform evidence-based strategies to enhance access to paid family caregiving across the US. NCI-AD Team Presents at USAging Conference
Aug 7th, 2025The NCI-AD team recently presented data on the outcomes of older adults from the 2023-24 NCI-AD Adult Consumer Survey at the USAging Conference. "What do we want? Data! When do we want it? Now!" showcased data from National Core Indicators (NCI) on social isolation, community engagement and relationships for people with disabilities and older adults who use state-funded long-term services and supports (LTSS). The presenters described what NCI data shows about social connections among older adults, older adults with physical disabilities and older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities relative to one another and their younger peers. The presenters also described what the data shows about how these social connection outcomes are connected to broader health and community living outcomes. The presenters discussed strategies for leveraging this data with various groups, including LTSS users and families, state policy makers and more.

NCI-AD Team Presents Research at ASA's On Aging 2025 Conference
Apr 29th, 2025The NCI-AD team recently presented two pieces of research with partners at the On Aging 2025 conference in Orlando, Florida, organized by American Society on Aging (ASA).
On April 23rd, Senior Director Rosa Plasencia (ADvancing States) and Co-Director Stephanie Giordano (HSRI) joined Divya Venkataganesan from North Carolina's Department of Health and Human Services to present "Leveraging Lived Experience Data to Inform Multisector Plans for Aging." The session demonstrated how states can use NCI-AD data to incorporate the voices of people with lived experiences into their 10-year aging plans, enabling data-driven approaches that improve service delivery and outcomes for older adults.
